Happy New Year!
As always, the new year is a great time of promise, goal setting, and fresh starts. The holidays are behind us and we’re setting out on the path towards new goals and opportunities. Part of every SIDEKICKS student’s goal is to make continuous improvements to every aspect of his or her life. This is the central concept of Choongsil (constant and never-ending improvement) is the underlying philosophy of our personal achievement academy. It’s only natural that the New Year with its emphasis on resolutions is a great time to talk about and renew our commitment to constant and never-ending improvement.
To be successful in 2010 we have to follow the Ultimate Success Formula:
1) Decide what you want
2) Take MASSIVE action!
3) Notice what’s working and what’s not
4) Change your approach until you achieve what you want.
“Deciding to produce a result causes events to be set in motion. If you simply decide what it is you want, get yourself to take action, learn from it, and change your approach, then you will create the momentum to achieve the result. As soon as you truly commit to making something happen, the “how” will reveal itself.” – Anthony Robbins, “Awaken the Giant Within: How to take immediate control of your mental, emotional, physical, & financial destiny!” Page 38.
The first step for your 2010 blueprint is to shake off the rust and get yourself and/or your child to class. This is the “Ya Gotta Be Here” principle. “Ya Gotta Be Here” in order to benefit from the life lessons, fitness conditioning, and self-protection skills that we agreed were good for you when you first signed up. Sure, taking time off during the holidays makes us all feel good; but living at your true potential makes you feel truly alive. I, for one, refuse to live at anything less than my true potential from now on. I’m going to take massive action in 2010 to achieve all of my goals and to help those students in our program to achieve theirs.
Do you want to have better relationships with your spouse or children? If you’re a parent and aren’t taking class along with your kids, think about the bonding experience that the two of you will have learning and practicing together. It’s one of the things I remember best from my childhood and something I look forward to the most now that I’m a father. If you’re an adult student, think of the discipline and focus you’re gaining that helps you develop patience. This is especially useful during times of disagreement. You focus on the problem, not on trying to tear into your partner. In addition, martial arts training has helped many husbands and wives become more focused on attending to the needs of their spouse or significant other because they are focused on serving others and not on selfish needs. Not to mention, it’s something that spouses can do together which in today’s world is increasingly more difficult. If you’re a single parent or single adult, you’re not the only one training with us. It’s a great place to develop your social network in an environment that pushes you to be better, just like everyone else in the class.
Do you want to get back to the fitness level you were in high school, college, before baby? Rome wasn’t built in a day, and it’s destruction didn’t occur in one either. In fact, the decline of Rome last 400 years. It’s taken a year and a half for me to gain the weight that I have since we moved to our new location. There’s an old Chinese proverb that says “the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” The great thing about martial arts training, either through our Traditional Mixed Martial Arts Program or our martial arts based fitness program Warrior X-Fit is that we have the skills and ability to keep you motivated and moving in the right direction for whatever amount of time it takes for you to reach your goals.
Do you want to rest assured that your family is safe? Sidekicks Family Martial Arts Centers is a leader in self-protection training. “Self-Protection” is the new buzzword that we, along with several other forward thinking martial arts schools have adopted over self-defense. This is because protecting yourself and your family goes beyond punches and kicks, it delves into all aspects of your life not just the parameters of a physical confrontation. With our juniors and little dragons we focus on kid safety and being bullyproof and abduction proof. This year we’ll be holding seasonal kid safety seminars to help parents look out for hidden dangers of holidays, the summer, and even back to school time. Self-Protection is also mental. We help people every day break out of self-limiting thoughts and beliefs that are holding all of us back from reaching our true potential.
In 2010, ya gotta be here. I look forward to seeing each and every one of you in class or in the hallways of our campuses.
Next week is testing week at the FishHawk location. Please see the announcements board for the appropriate time you or your child will be testing. Get in here, get those stripes and get registered for testing this week.
